WHAT IS RESTORATIVE YOGA?

Restorative Yoga is a deeply supportive, prop-based practice designed to help the body to rest, the mind to slow down, and the nervous system to settle. Postures are held for longer periods with full support, allowing you to soften, release, and experience a different quality of rest that is centred on ease rather than effort. At D-F Studio, Restorative is designed to improve joint mobility, enhance connective tissue health, and deeply soothe the nervous system – making it ideal for those seeking a mindful, healing practice.

Restorative yoga in Brookvale

Our Restorative classes offer a calm, welcoming space to step out of the pace of everyday life. Using props to fully support the body, each class invites stillness, comfort, and deep relaxation in a way that feels gentle, spacious, and unhurried. Some Restorative classes at D-F Studio include elements such as a sound bath or guided Yoga Nidra, adding another layer of softness and helping you settle even more deeply into stillness.

Why practise Restorative Yoga?

Restorative Yoga offers a powerful counterbalance to the busyness of modern life. It can help ease physical tension, support better sleep, reduce stress, and create a greater sense of calm and steadiness. Rather than asking more of you, this practice offers a chance to pause, be supported, and let the body unwind in its own time.

If you are looking for a gentler, more nurturing class, Restorative Yoga offers a simple and deeply supportive place to begin. At D-F Studio, our intentionally smaller classes, thoughtful teaching, and calm studio environment create a more personal experience — one that allows you to truly slow down and feel looked after.

What are the benefits of Restorative Yoga at D-F Studio?

Support rest, recovery, and nervous-system balance

Restorative Yoga helps create the conditions for the body to rest more deeply. With longer-held, fully supported shapes, this practice can help settle the nervous system, release accumulated tension, and support a greater sense of ease. For many of our members, it becomes an important part of maintaining balance in a busy week.

A gentle remedy for stress and fatigue

If you are feeling depleted, overwhelmed, or mentally overstretched, Restorative can offer a much-needed pause. The gentle pace and supportive use of props make it a soothing practice that helps you slow down without pressure. When included, practices such as sound bath or Yoga Nidra can deepen that sense of rest, offering a more immersive experience of stillness and relaxation.

A slower way to reconnect

In a culture that often rewards doing more, Restorative offers something different: a chance to stop, breathe, and reconnect with yourself. It is a practice of softness, stillness, and allowing, and that can be deeply valuable in itself.

Is Restorative Yoga right for me?

A supportive class for all bodies and abilities

Restorative Yoga is accessible to everyone, regardless of age, mobility, or experience. At our Brookvale studio, we ensure every student feels welcome and supported, using props to adapt poses to suit individual needs.

At D-F Studio, props are used to make each posture more comfortable and adaptable, helping every student feel supported in a way that works for their body. This class can be especially helpful for beginners, those feeling run down, people managing stress, or anyone wanting a gentler and more nurturing practice.

Which instructors teach Restorative Yoga?

Our Restorative classes are taught by experienced, caring teachers who bring warmth, presence, and thoughtful guidance to the room. Each teacher brings their own style, but what they share is a commitment to creating a calm, inclusive, and well-supported class experience where students can truly settle.

Aimee Robinson-Davey

Aimee was first introduced to yoga in her early twenties, during a time when she was experiencing debilitating panic attacks. While most doctors referred her to endless tests, it was Dr. Ebba who prescribed something different — yoga. Stepping into a studio for the first time changed her life, sparking a deep curiosity about how movement, breath, and stillness could so profoundly change her life.

That curiosity became a lifelong journey. Aimee has trained with influential teachers in Rishikesh, London, and Sydney, and her practice continues to evolve alongside her lived experiences of grief, loss, pregnancy, and motherhood. Having personally experienced yoga’s profound therapeutic effects, she teaches from that space of lived wisdom.

Over the years, the deeper Aimee has gone into her practice, the slower her teachings have become. Once believing that the advanced yogi was one who could master headstands, she has since come to see the advanced yogi as one who can rest deeply in stillness — connecting with the quiet within and around them. This insight informs her classes in Yin, Restorative, and Yoga Nidra, where she gently guides students into the deeper layers of the body — inviting curiosity about how the body speaks to us and encouraging connection with the whisper within.

Her path has also led her to study Yoga Therapy, Trauma-Informed Yoga, Holotropic Breathwork, and Psychotherapy, each a reflection of her commitment to understanding the mind–body connection. In her classes, Aimee blends this training with her own journey, creating supportive spaces for students to explore their inner world and develop a relationship to the whisper within. She’s forever thankful for Dr. Ebba, for seeing beneath the symptoms and guiding her to this sacred practice that changed the course of her life.

Sophie has a background in education, working as a high school teacher and university tutor for over 15 years. Her passion for teaching has taken many shapes and forms over the years, and she loves that this path has now led her to teach yoga at D-F Studio. Sophie believes that yoga is for everybody and always ensures that everyone feels welcome and supported in her classes, regardless of experience, fitness, or flexibility.

Sophie’s passion for yoga started when she was struggling in life, trying to find the right path, looking for peace in a busy world. She could barely touch her toes and never considered that turning up to a yoga class would have such an impact on her life. The spiritual side of yoga is most important to Sophie, and she believes passionately in the power of yoga to open our lives and our souls to our divine essence.

As the studio owner, Sophie is currently living out her dream life – running her own business as well as teaching yoga is the perfect fit! She still gets to enjoy the numbers side of business management but is also passionate about offering the best Yoga & Pilates offering to the community. Her favourite things about D-F are chatting with the D-F community and planning the D-F workshops and events – always looking for something new and engaging for our members.
