Healing & relaxation with Lucy Heller

Is stress affecting you? Do you suffer from headaches, or tension in your neck and shoulders? Wouldn’t it be great to switch off all your devices, tune out of all life’s pressures and tune into your body?

Yin & Pins combines the practices of yin yoga and acupuncture, so that you can enter a deeper state of relaxation. In Chinese Medicine, ‘Yin’ represents softness, slowness and being (without doing). In today’s modern world we often spend too much time in a ‘Yang’ state; busy, moving from one thing to the next. Whilst we need a certain amount of yang energy to achieve our goals, too much ‘doing’ can lead to burnout. It is important that we spend time to replenish our yin energy, by simply being.

At the Yin & Pins workshop we will start off with a yin yoga class, and finish with acupuncture during savasana. Receiving acupuncture during savasana will allow you to enter a deeply restful state. Acupuncture has been shown to relax the nervous system, release muscle tension and balance hormones. You will leave the workshop feeling like you’ve been on a mini-retreat.

What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is part of Chinese Medicine, an ancient healing practice that has been around for thousands of years, and is supported by modern research for a variety of conditions.
Acupuncture uses very fine needles (finer than a human hair), which are inserted into acupuncture points. Acupuncture is used to work with a range of conditions including stress and anxiety, musculoskeletal problems, digestion and gynaecological health, to name a few

How does acupuncture work?

From a Chinese Medicine perspective, acupuncture works by moving ‘qi’ or energy to flow smoothly within its meridians (pathways) around the body.
In Western medical terms, acupuncture has been shown to improve circulation, reduce inflammation, reduce pain, balance hormones and relax the nervous system. A recent study shows that acupuncture is as effective as opioids for pain relief.

Does acupuncture hurt?

Most people find acupuncture very relaxing and you may drift off to sleep or enter a dream-like state whilst having acupuncture.
The acupuncture needles are very fine, and most of the time they are inserted superficially. During the Yin & Pins class, a minimal number of points will be selected and the session will be supervised at all times in case you have any concerns. All needles are sterile and single-use.
